What usually fails on a TCL

Backlights, more than anything else. A TCL with sound but no picture, or a picture that is very dark, is almost always a backlight job. It is a routine repair, but not a living-room one — the panel has to come out on a clean bench, so we take the set with us and bring it back when it is done. Power boards and main boards come up less often.

The good news about TCL panels

TCL panels are good, and panel failures are less common than on many other brands. That makes a TCL a better repair candidate than its price suggests: fix the backlight, and you keep a set with a sound panel.

What we will tell you straight

No diagnosis by description — a picture problem is confirmed with the back off, not on the phone. Physical damage and water damage we do not repair. On a small TCL we will tell you plainly that the diagnostic alone costs about what a new one does, and if the model is a known problem we will say we would not recommend it. If you want the set repaired anyway, we do it right.

Parts and timing

Genuine TCL parts through the manufacturer’s channel, usually 3–5 days, sometimes longer. Exact price and exact wait after the diagnostic; nothing is ordered until you say go.
